The plan was to do 2 x 1 mile cruise intervals with 400 recovery at just under 8 min pace.  Since my neighborhood has a 1 mile loop, I thought I would bring my 1 year golden retriever for the 1st warm up mile (his first run).  Ok, so we head on out and get going, and really you should have seen his face.  He looked up with this 'are you for real' look and took off - all 80 pounds of him.  Full out sprint.  I tugged him back and he began circling around.  Once he got to the other side of me, he bolted again.  This went on for the 1st 1200 or so. Banjo, the dog, then decided that he had enough and sat down.   We ended up walking the rest of the way home.  I thought ..well.. it wasn't bad...sort of a fartlek...  Anyway, I dropped him off and did my 2 x 1 mile (8:03) (8:08) - not exactly what was planned, but okay with it.  Cooled down 1 mile.

Running with a dog is always a pleasure. I have a 4 year old Boxer. His thoughts on the matter are why warm up when you can sprint. We can run about 4 miles before he refuses to move anymore.

Welcome to the blog, Kirsten! That is such a funny story. My former running partner used to bring her huskies and one would just lay down and refuse to budge once he got tired. He got voted off "the team," lol.
